MOTORWAY LESSONS
A MAJOR STEP FORWARD
Since June 4th 2018 learners have been able to have driving lessons on the motorway. This is only allowed if the provisional licence holder is driving a car with dual controls fitted and with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). It is illegal otherwise. Private cars with parents are NOT allowed. Making this possible was considered a major step forward, a way of improving confidence and skill levels of full licence holders. Previously, it was only possible to drive on the motorway after you had passed your driving test. Unfortunately, this lead (and still does) to those drivers going onto the motorway with no previous experience of the hazards they could come up against and on how to deal with them. It can also lead to drivers being uncertain and scared to go onto a motorway and therefore never gaining the experience.
motorway LESSONs
On a motorway the hazards are different, rules and regulations are different and a good understanding through reading the Highway Code is necessary. In our motorway lessons, we will discuss the following.
Luckily for us, we live in an area where we are blessed with a good motorway network allowing us to easily experience differing traffic types, volumes and speed restrictions.
- Learning the difference between motorways and single carriageway roads
- Understanding speed restrictions for different vehicle categories
- Lane discipline and overtaking
- Planning your journey with rest breaks/tiredness
- Forward thinking and reading the road ahead
- Signage and smart motorways
- Breakdowns and emergencies

FULL LICENSE HOLDERS
I offer these motorway lessons to full licence holders to refresh their skills, develop their confidence, and, to those who are a complete beginner to the world of motorway driving. These lessons are better off being longer, such as 90 minutes to 2 hours, so they can get the best practice and experience as possible. There will be a discussion beforehand to determine your experience with driving, why you would like the lesson, whether there are particular aspects you want to improve upon, such as joining and leaving the motorway. Having a longer lesson will allow us to explore the theory first and then practice as much as possible. All of the areas mentioned above are discussed.
Lessons for full licence holders are generally one-off lessons unless more are preferred. For Full License Motorway Lesson prices please follow the link below.
